Thanks!
I'm curious, how long have you guys been up and operating? I haven't looked in to it but I saw the ad up on the site here. Three or four years ago was when I was interested in broadcasting, just as I was finishing up high school. However, I convinced myself based on other people's knowledge and advice, that this would be a dying field. I know there will still be Internet and possibly Sattelite companies that will continue on, but I intended to work at a station rather from at home.
The station itself has been up for about a year and a half so far, I believe it is 2 years this September. Right now, we are a handful of people who do broadcasting for fun and the purpose of entertainment. Many of us have other things we do too. For example, I am an online college student and a mom of a 2-year-old, and one of our other broadcasters I know has a job during the day, but does her show in the evenings. The station is also about to undergo some cool changes which will make it more listener driven and interactive, so we're looking forward to unveiling the cool new features sometime in the near future, though there's not a set date for that yet.
OK so allow me to be a smart-arse here: There's plenty of internet stations out there that claim to "entertain". What's so unique about this particular station?
Just dropping in to say, if you want to broadcast, great. I'll never do it, for two reasons: Mic fright, and I just don't think I'm that entertaining.
But enjoy it as a hobby, everyone needs one. There's no money in it anymore. I know someone who went to radio school in the 90s, an opera singer actually, and I can remember being profoundly disappointed that he didn't get a gig. I don't have the relationship with radio that some of you all do, but I just thought he was really good. Now, there's less and less money in it. I've been following an online discussion from the business side of that business, and apparently radio and TV are suffering the same corporate communism - huge conglomerate collectives owning it all and being billions in debt - which prevents real innovation in that space.
The only other thing I will say is, why would some Internet stations act like they are still under the control of the FCC, bleeping out words, playing the nanny state communist card that makes the religious so-called conservtives happy? I mean, it's the Internet! I'm finding it refreshing when I find people who broadcast things you can't get from the nanny state, to be honest.
Well, we don't broadcast for money. Everyone on our team does it for fun. We also try to be ourselves in our shows. Rather than putting on an act and pretending to be something we're not, each DJ's individual personality shines through in their presentations. We also provide more than simply music for entertainment. There's an automation system when nothing is on that plays music during the day, most of our DJ's currently do shows in the evenings because it's the best time for them, which is also why we'd love some more international broadcasters for a little variety in timing of shows, that way international listeners get more than just automation, but we also play audio dramas and other such things, and we are more than open to suggestions from listeners as well as staff members on what might be good entertainment. Maybe you have an audio book, or an audio book series you'd like to hear, or that you have read and would like to share with others. Suggest it. We might just put it in. Our station manager is working hard to implement some cool new features to increase interactivity, and the entire goal is to entertain the listeners, not just to play whatever we like. I mean obviously our shows will originate from things we enjoy, and attract listeners with similar tastes, but as they progress and listener feedback is gathered, the shows are molded to include listener preference. There's a little bit of something for everyone on Audio Access FM, and definitely room for suggestions, comments, and feedback if desired.
Yeah I did internet radio once. i'm not sure that i'd do it again.
Internet radio is what Fm was in the early 60's. lots of internet stations, and not a lot of people listening. besides, you can't stream it in your car relyably yet.
